About this product
Description:
Important Note: Starting December 10, 2024, to certify a device, it will be mandatory to present both the serial number and the IMEI. This new requirement is a measure established by regulatory authorities and will apply to all certification companies.
Certifying a phone in Chile is an important and mandatory process to ensure that the device complies with the quality and safety standards established by the regulatory authority. The main objective of certification is to protect consumers and prevent the commercialization of products that could put their health or safety at risk.
The certification of a mobile phone or any other device must be carried out for equipment acquired abroad, as well as for people entering the country and wishing to stay for more than 30 days, who must register their foreign cell phone in Chile.
Certifying a phone involves subjecting it to tests and certifications that verify its compatibility with the country's telecommunications network, as well as its compliance with current technical and health regulations. These tests include verifying the quality of the radio frequency signals emitted by the device, evaluating the resistance and durability of the equipment, and checking that it complies with the established limits for electromagnetic radiation.
A certified cell phone allows for proper use of telephone networks on the devices. Certification means verifying compliance with certain specifications or characteristics of a device.
Otherwise, you will not be able to use the phone correctly, so the process of certifying a cell phone is very important to enjoy all the features and benefits of mobile devices.
How to certify a cell phone in Chile? You must register the IMEI code, which is a unique code that identifies any mobile device worldwide and helps to find them every time they connect to the network and facilitates device identification.
The mobile phone's IMEI must be registered in Chile because the multi-band CL certification standard (Exemption Resolution 1463) requires that as of September 23, 2017, every device or mobile phone that meets the following characteristics must be registered in SUBTEL's unique and central system;
- All devices sold in Chile with IMEI (smartphones, tablets, routers, GPS, smart devices, etc.).
- Any device that works on all frequency bands and is available in at least one mobile technology (2G, 3G, 4G) currently operating in Chile.
- Any device or mobile phone that can receive SAE (emergency alert system) notifications and ONEMI alarm messages during emergencies or natural disasters.
Cellular certification allows the device to be unlocked so that it can be used with any mobile operator in the country and allows for phone portability.
Once a phone has been certified, it is assigned a unique identification number, known as a Certification Record. This number allows authorities and consumers to verify the legality and authenticity of the device. In addition, certified phones can be marketed and used without restrictions in Chilean territory.
Once purchased, it will be ready within 2 to 24 business hours.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is certification?
A: Certification is the process by which a device of a class, brand, and model is subjected to verification of compliance with technical standards to determine if it is suitable for operation on a specific telecommunications network.
Why is it important to certify my device?
A: The importance of certifying a phone in Chile lies in several aspects. First, it ensures that devices comply with established quality and safety standards, which reduces the risk of technical failures, health damage, or accidents related to phone use. This provides peace of mind to consumers, who can trust that certified phones have been evaluated and approved by the competent authorities.
In addition, certification has a positive impact on the country's market and economy. By requiring phone certification, fair competition among manufacturers is fostered, and the commercialization of low-quality or non-compliant devices is prevented. This contributes to strengthening consumer confidence in technological products and promoting the development of the telecommunications industry in Chile.
What is the purpose of certifying my device?
A: 1. Receive Emergency Alert System (SAE) messages sent by ONEMI to the population when their lives may be at risk due to some phenomenon, natural or otherwise (tsunamis, avalanches, eruptions, etc.).
2. Work on all frequency bands available in at least one of the mobile technologies (2G, 3G, and/or 4G).
3. Allows for number portability since it will be unlocked for use with any mobile company in the country. That is, it will work with any company and not just the one it originally operated with.
What happens if I don't certify my phone?
A: It will be blocked within 30 continuous days from its first use in the country.
What happens if my phone is not sold in Chile?
A: For phones not sold in Chile, certification is done in the same way, and it is registered in the Multiband/SAE system, but since it is not in the database, it will not show the message that it can operate with all bands, even though it will be able to.
How long does it take to be registered?
A: 2 to 24 business hours.
Does this service help me unlock my device due to non-payment or theft?
A: No, this service is exclusive to devices brought from abroad that need to be certified for mobile network use in the country.
