Frequently Asked Questions

What advantage does the 33 MP sensor give me over a traditional 24 MP one?
The Alpha 7 IV's 33 MP Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor offers much higher resolution performance. This means more accurate textures and an astonishing level of detail, in addition to giving you a much wider cropping margin in post-production without losing print or viewing quality.
What does it mean to record in 10-bit 4:2:2?
While standard cameras record in 8-bit (reproducing millions of colors), the 10-bit 4:2:2 format records billions of colors and retains twice as much color information. This prevents ugly banding in skies or gradients and gives you massive freedom when editing and doing professional color grading.
Is it necessary to have experience in color correction to record video?
No. Thanks to the inclusion of the S-Cinetone color profile, the camera is calibrated to deliver accurate colors and film-like skin tones directly from the recording, greatly streamlining your workflow without requiring intensive post-production.
